What Causes Dementia?
Cognition refers to brain processes that allow you to think, reason and interact with the world around you. Dementia happens when these processes become seriously impaired. Dementia is thought of as a syndrome. A Syndrome is a collections of signs and symptoms that occur in a consistent pattern. This pattern often points to a specific condition as the cause. If an older adult has memory issues that are getting worse over time and the person is having trouble with attention and getting lost, a doctor may suspect that signs are from dementia. If so, then the doctor will look possible causes based on what is being observed. For example Alzheimer's or another disease.
